STIRRING UP THE BOTTOM
We have started a poetry revival in historic Shockoe bottom and shall continue to stir it here on the
World Wide Web.

Hotel in the Sky

There’s no rest upon this planet

We walk a rocky road

And stumbling at the cross roads

Don’t know which way to go

If you’re lonely on your journey

And have a heavy load

Your travail is no longer

There’s a place where you can go

The neon sign is flashing

The doorway’s made of gold

So come into the foyer and

save your aching soul!

The beds all have vibrators

The sheets are starched and clean

There’s a complimentary

bottle of shampoo and Listerine

You’ll never lift a finger

You won’t have to do a thing

Get along home children, children

To Hotel Gloryland

Get along home children,

To the hotel in the sky

Get along home children,

You don’t have to ask

Get along home

To the hotel that’s the best

Come into the dinning hall

Come and take your seat

The table legs are bending,

There’s more than you can eat!

There is a gourmet head chef,

10 cooks and well-heeled staff

And when you’re done imbibing,

They tell jokes to make you laugh

When it’s late and time for bed

Lay down to take your rest

You’ll want to sleep forever

In your celestial cloud-lined nest

Just close your eyes and slumber

And way down deep you slide

Don’t worry about the checkout

Just charge it when you die

Get along home children, children

Come on and get your fill

At the Hotel Gloryland

Never worry ‘bout the bill

Get along home children,

Come rest, get off the road

When you checkout from the Gloryland

Just charge it when you go
