About the Playwright

Slashtipher J. Coleman is a playwright, novelist, painter, musician, surfer, fisherman, hunter, and author of the book “Is My Chakra Pretty?” His short stories have appeared in Nocturnal Lyric, The Daily Planet and The Chronicle. In 2004, he toured theaters with his one-man musical comedy “Love in Boxes.”

Slashtipher studied writing and jazz piano in London and in Chicago where he received his Master's Degree. Through the years he has performed on stage as an MC, stand-up comedian, alternative rock musician, and as a jazz pianist. From 1997-2001, he hosted, “Home Grown Theatre,” in his Portland, Oregon apartment, providing a venue for aspiring filmmakers, musicians and performers to develop new work.

As a painter, Slash has exhibited his artwork in his own gallery as well as galleries across the United States. He has created commissions for Stash Tea Inc, State Farm Insurance, and Smith College.

A Virginia native,
Slashtipher currently
lives in Richmond, VA.

His one-man-show
“The Neonman and Me,”

tells of a strange prophecy
his best friend leaves with him
before he dies.

It is due in theaters fall 2005.

Roanoke's prestigious Mill Mountain Theater has decided to produce the world premier and eight shows of
        The Neonman and Me.
 It all begins October 14.

Beginning next week I will be teaching a series of free classes for writers and performers at Comedy Alley (7115 Staples Mill Road). The series is called Neon signs and much of the info will draw on my experiences with my new show that is about to tour,

               "The Neonman and Me."

The classes are open to all writers and performers from young writers in middle school to seasoned performers. Those who will benefit most are performers looking for ways to create winning monologues, writers looking to put more comedic elements in their work, poets looking to give better public readings, or writers looking to go on tour with their own production.
