wheel of life
SEX is
Always MODERN
To call a symbol JUST A SYMBOL
Is like calling a missile headed straight
For your pink little body- JUST A Missile.
Did you know that people pick up meat cleavers
And get on horses and maim and pillage
Their way to your bedroom to ravage your …
Just because of a cute, little, harmless symbol.
Yet there is much culture and religion
built around the idea that death is just a wink
or perhaps a 49-day sleep-over while
the tribal elders read to you in the hope
That you’ll change your mind and come back
And milk the yak for another year.
Things that are symbolic often feel weird
Way-out maybe, but traditional at the same time.
Sex, death, easy for you to say, wax poetic
When you want an electric edge to work with
A feeling of familiar weirdness to link all your
Importance to the cosmic inevitable or make
Your girlfriend seem modern because she’s
not only sexual but gets naked in the woods.
It’s a tapestry you’ve been weaving a long time,
A rock you’ve been hammering on life long -
A piece of music where you are the soloist
Only you like having all the folks around digging
What you got to say with your keys, your horn,
Your angel voice, your nerve edge guitar –
So your head goes back and you
close your eyes, wailin, getting into it
the most wonderful groove you ever
felt where your whole life passes before
and when it ends in a masterful amen, but
you open your eyes and everyone is gone.
And,
you hear a voice reading,
“This
is what death is, you are dead.
You can leave, now, and go forward.”
That’s why I think anything that makes
you feel really, really alive - is MODERN.
