FEBRUARY  2013

TOOT  UNCOMMON

No pyramid scheme compares
To the financial immortality some
Artists get when the barrage band
Becomes far more serious than
The artist ever intended for it to be.

As if born to fail a soul bare bulb
Is all you need to light the experience,
Your act, and the fact that you’ve
Already started tooting your own horn.

Music falls on the droll, the unimpressed,
Or the very, very pedestrian at heart.
Reaction may include a startled look
After a car horn blares mid-crossing,
A hayseed ambivalence to cows coming home,

Or that little-boy-blew-it “That’s-nice-dear”,
Freeze-dried demonstration of self control
And cruise-control platitude response.
The zombies handing out anti music drugs
Win the night even though eyes light up.

It all comes down to a life long scat
In a barroom where you practice dying
In front of witless witnesses, like a
High pitched gnat whining for attention
When affirmation plays as hard to get…

As finding the tomb of the unknown cat,
Over there, in that wet, squashy clover ...
Where only the bare, dead trees watch.
