But Appeared to be Lucid

The old man in bed looked at his nurse,
legs and all, feeling he was a kid again,
seeing her instead like a twin popsicle,
flavored just the way he always remembered,
but otherwise appeared to be lucid.

He said he was waiting for Captain Idareyou
to pop up from the despicable ruin of city
crumble, bringing back a new poetic justice
that accounted for the way men live and not
deeds they're buried with. He seemed lucid.

Surrounding hospital staff asked him if he knew
where he was, what today’s date was and if he
knew who the President of the United States was.

He answered, “I’m in an institution for mental
vacationers, the date is irrelevant." and although
he could not name the President, he said, “that
man was no Joe six-pack, but a great statesman,"
and that he appeared to be lucid, like himself.
