The Stupid Future

The future I grew up with always wore hats,

gloves and uniforms, snapped to attention

whenever you approached.

The future was well nourished and fit,

ready to go for an E.V.A. or a moonwalk.

Future people knew their hi-tech equipment

and could speak every engineering code.

So, I took all my vitamins for the future,

fed and prepared my brain for the onslaught

of intellectuals to come, but I never thought

the future would be stupid, or so interested

in personal rudeness and Gothic beliefs.

Truth is, belief isn't the proper criteria

for making judgments that affect life.

Belief only governs reactions of a torch mob.

Even if I write a stupid poem for stupid people

they think they’re much smarter than me, because

I can never be familiar with every subtle shade of

STUPIDITY,  I’m just not prepared.
