Dragon Dance

 

I live for the dragon dance,

oily smolder that lies molten

between light and warmth, 

my underlying burnt smudge 

of time, uniting twin fires of

dire survival and pure spirit.

 

I live like a shadow of the bird

that crosses us, bring together

objects on my table, brass fashioned

from lamp to urn and back.

 

I live in the gloss of shine, in the ooze

of the blood of all we ever die for,

from dark metaphor of motivation to

heraldic drape that hangs from my horn,

my weave,  my weft, my crone spinster’s

dragon emblem, spread-winged,

 

released from stitch to sonic roar.
