STIRRING UP THE BOTTOM
We have started a poetry revival in historic Shockoe bottom and shall continue to stir it here on the
World Wide Web.

August 2005

Afternoon of the Phone

Post cards are ok in the waiting

Room before your teeth come out,

But sometimes you want a little

Restless avant-guard, some poetic

Drag-up drill, just for the thrill of it.

Say you doze off between digital

Downloads, ladies in lust, wake

Between erogenous and erroneous,

Not knowing if your dream was real

Or taking place before your eyes,

The phone tells you when you are

Alone or together, events real or

Unreal, weekend in Havana-like,

lined up with an Iowa-yell abandon.

We’ll just creep into our little shell.

Like Henry says: Pulp doesn’t rely

On happy endings. Pulp goes chic

And fierce into that good weekend

With a retro Falchi bag, walking it,

Thinking it, psyched for that virgin

Snow adventure with real virgins.
