October 2004

From my 70’s war protest days

Trick or Treaty

Trick or treaty,

man's unkind leap into fleet tritt

mold soldier, jet debt, oil loyalty, fuel drool,

is a cornshock treatment of the future,

another merciless mission to Bald Mt.

War purchase knocks at home fronts

while TVette Cong announce trigger treat,

trick or retreat, trickery Dick.

The House offers candy-coated conundrums

and hollowed wieners just for the

ding-donging of America,

the cracking of Liberty Bell cheeks.

Screwed through the night

on the flag that was still there,

O Cancer country, Hello!

Scuttling the floors of silent seas again?

Across the empty oil tank of utter space

you scoop up the tranquillity

of tideless moon bottom,

lampblack the embryonic air,

abbreviate the canopy of candle breath,

ink the capillaries of riverborn oceans to come;

the wick of the unknown shortens

and the pumpkin grin flickers.

War is a wondrous end.

Wars end no wonder.
