STIRRING UP THE BOTTOM
We have started a poetry revival in historic Shockoe bottom and shall continue to stir it here on the
World Wide Web.

October 2004

From my 70’s war protest days heavily revised

Trick or Treaty

Trick or treaty, man's unkind leap

into jet debt, oil loyalty, fuel drool,

is a corn shock treatment of the future,

another merciless mission to Bald Mt.

War purchase knocks at home fronts

while TV-ette Cong announce trigger

treat, trick or retreat, and trickery Dick.

The House offers candy-coated

conundrums and hollowed wieners

for the the flag that was still there,

O Cancer country, Hello!

Scuttling the floors of silent seas again?

Across the empty oil tank of utter space

you scoop up the tranquility

of tidal moon bottom,

lampblack the embryonic air,

abbreviate the canopy of candle breath,

ink the capillaries of oceans to come;

the wick of the unknown shortens

and the pumpkin grin flickers.

War is a wondrous end.

Wars end no wonder.
