One Sax Stand

Without Sax

You don’t have to be my lover to give me a hug.

Besides, my lover doesn’t care.

I may be guilty of unbridled sax.

Although my mouthpiece and my neck strap

Should be considered harness enough.

In quest of water and healing I look for

Sax on the beach from time to time.

A sandy read or two, at the Slippery Bottom.

Group sax, even under age sax,

starting at 14 and falling into deviant sax.

I actually prefer sax with a bridal.

The sax will not stand alone.

Blue with blue wool you put yourself to my good use

Massage my brain bumps, my Tom foolery and

Respond to a man speaking for the first time

without a saxophone in his hand

I am pulling the wool, hear my

Improvisation without a stopper in my mouth,

No lock on my lip, top sax on my own, stock in trade

Left home, locked in the case for tonight.

It’s almost like sax with a stranger

All the way live with an instrument

Too sensitive to stay quiet anymore,

My bruised ego needs to explore

New rites, new territory, without a sax.
